On September 26, 2007, the Polytechnic University of the Philippines staged its Debate Championship where College of Economics, Finance and Politics (CEFP) and College of Languages and Linguistics (CLL) competed with one another to be hailed as the Debate Champion.
The crowd were all excited and were cheering support to their respective colleges. It was a nerve-breaking event for both colleges because its a battle between the two best Debating teams of the University. CEFP is the defending Champion and for how many years has been holding said title. On the other hand, CLL is a great contender and recently has qualified to the Quarterfinals Round of the Philippine National Debate Championship hosted by ANC Broadcasting Company.
The panel of Adjudicators were composed of five members coming from U.P Diliman(2), San Sebastian College of Law, and PUP College of Law(2).
The teams debated on the motion if we should applaud GMA for declaring English as the Medium of Instruction. Both teams have made good arguments, both teams are dynamic and both are responsive to the different issues raised. But at the end of the day, only one team was declared as the winner.
At the conclusion of the competition, the College of Languages and Linguistics was declared the winner. It was a momentous event for them to have won the championship for the first time. Students, members of the faculty, and expectators celebrated the victory.
Congratulations to CLL Debate team! Congatulations to CEFP as well for giving a good match! Everyone is a winner!
