To all who have become a Grandmaster of the School of Debaters, to serve and to share knowledge in Debate to students of a former College ( College of Economics Finance and Politics ) is a very fulfilling experience.
On March 8, 2008, I was invited by Professor de Guzman to be a Guest Lecturer in his class Argumentation and Debate in CEFP. He invited me to discuss my expertise in competitive debating and to elaborate debate strategies. I was so excited that time because I'll be meeting debate enthusiasts who are great in their own right. And I know, that I am serving my purpose of making everyone in PUP a great debater.
During my Grandmastership in CEFP, debating has been very open to everyone. The road towards that end have been difficult because not all masters of SOD would want to make SOD available to other Colleges due to some reasons about possible negative effects and issues of practicability. Fortunately, with the help of my very able Masters Rofylyn Lagundino and Paul Francis Jamarolin, we have convinced everyone that success in debating is measured on how you extend that skill to other Colleges of the PUP community. A PUP debate society needs to be filled by students not only coming from CEFP but also from students of other Colleges as well.
Our principle during that time is to make debate available to all members of PUP who wants to learn debate. We train not only our beloved College CEFP, but also other Colleges like College of Business, COABTE, Engineering, PUP Taguig, etc. I also remember during that time that CEFP have a very strong friendship with College of Accountancy and College of Languages and Linguistics. I further remember competing in one debate competition where the composition of three speakers of PUP team consisted of CEFP (me), CLL and College of Accountancy. During that time, PUP debate exercise is very united.
All these I recalled when I lectured in CEFP.
During my lecture, the spirits are very high. I can see in the eyes of the students how interested they are to learn strategies in debate. Students are very participatory and are very active in seeking knowledge.
I lectured to them the best strategies on how to properly define motions, how to do good preparation and case building, how to construct killer arguments, how to do good rebuttals and how to make a reply speech which is totally different from a rebuttal speech. I also lectured to them strategies in raising, recieving and giving killer POIs. And I shared to them my template in ensuring a seven minute speech for beginners.
This is again an achievement in debating. And forever will I extend my knowledge in debate to all students from every Colleges of PUP which is one of the guiding principles of the School of Debaters as a debate society not by CEFP alone, but by PUP.

Ah, so we quite misunderstood you. CLL and CEFP debaters are really civil with each others and I guess the problem arises when one tries to outshine the other.
Yes, there is a need to continue the chain of friendship in debating with other colleges as we (Arnel, Rof, and Paul) have established. And also, continue the traditon of teaching debate to all colleges who aim to learn debate. Its should not be like one trying to outshine the other, but one trying to show their best in debate. That's the true exercise. Thank lawrence.
I'll be honest. I'm not a goody-goody type of person and i did said something negative about them, them being you know, the other PUP debate society. But I had since grown up naman po but I just can't see the point of some chronologically mature individuals trying to simulate an antagonized relationship between the two organization. I just think there's more to life po than debating, well, at least in my life, there is more... he he he
I know that soon babalik rin ang dating set-up na friendly ang relationship ng lahat ng colleges about debating. I, rof and paul and the other former masters will be talking about it. thanks lawrence.
Wala naman pong nabago. We still train or at least contribute in training debaters in other colleges. Like in the College of Cooperatives. We also fostered ECODE, the Engineering's own Debate organization. Right now, there's a plan to train debaters from COABTE. Ate Roff did lecture us on the matter. I did agree with her points (just ask her about her points, heard you two are 'bestfriends') but it's up to the leadership. I don't hold any position in SOD. I work in the shadow.
THat's good to hear, spread the debate skills. Yes, nagkakausap kami ni rof about it, marami nga sya nakwento. I can sense that your contribution to SOD is worth of recognition. Conmgrats lawrence.
I do feel guilty having contributed to the rift. I should have known better po, but people do learn from mistakes. Okey lang naman po ang competition as along as it is a constructive one. But it must be confined sa campus lang. Outside people would judge us collectively eh.

I'm glad you are still active in debate.. Well, 2 years,and a son after, I could still use some of my debate techniques before in customer service. :)
