Scholarship Opportunities

To each individual who loves doing research, enjoys advanced education, and who loves to keep that analytical brain burning, the following opportunities are worth your time:

The Chinese University & University of Cambridge Joint Scholarship for Young Academics (Asia Deadline : May 30, 2008)

The Joint Conference organisers have set up a fund from which scholarships will be awarded to young academics. The scholarship aims to provide young academics with financial support and also the opportunity to present a paper before eminent lawyers and academics in the field. The scholarship will cover registration costs for the Conference and will include some contribution towards associated costs.

Interested applicants will need to submit a paper relating to the main conference theme (Effective Judicial Review: A Cornerstone of Good Governance).

PhD position in Signal Processing (Sweden Deadline : May 25, 2008)

Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application: PhD position in Signal Processing at the Department of Information Technology, Division of Systems and Control. At the Division of Systems and Control, methodological research is conducted in the areas of estimation, system identification, signal processing, spectral analysis, fault detection, and automatic control. More applied research areas are within wireless communications, radar and synthetic aperture radar, modelling and control of mechanical systems, process control, environment, and medicine.

We are now recruiting a PhD student who will be active in research projects of both theoretical and practical character. The main focus will be on statistical signal processing in general and more specifically on spectral analysis. The main application areas are signal processing for advanced radar, astronomical data mining, biomedical image analysis or genomic signal processing, depending on the interest of the student.

The successful candidate should have a master of science in Electrical Engineering. Good skills in oral and written English are required.

6 PhD positions in Mathematics/ Physics (Germany Deadline : May 16, 2008)

The DFG Research Training Group "Analysis, Geometry and String Theory" is offering six PhD positions in Mathematics/ Physics starting from 01 October, 2008. The appointments are limited to two years. An extension for one year is possible. Candidates will have the opportunity to work towards a doctoral degree in Analysis,Geometry or Mathematical Physics. Applicants are expected to hold a Master's degree or a Diplom in Mathematics or Physics. The successful applicants are expected to contribute to the teaching programme of the research training group.

Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards (United Kingdom Deadline : May 23, 2008)

Details of the 2008/09 Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Awards (DHPA) are not yet available but it is anticipated that the University of Liverpool will be offering two awards (full tuition and living costs) under the scheme. The eligible academic departments for the 2008/2009 competition will be confirmed by the beginning of March.

Departments will select the strongest Mphil/PhD applicants who match the areas of the awarding research councils, and take account of the preferences of the industrial partners and the University's own strategic priorities. Any applications for a PhD place received up to and including 23 May 2008 will be eligible for consideration. Offers will be made to the chosen candidates in June 2008.
